Collaboration

Collaboration

Work on the same page at the same time, talk about it in place, and see what changed.

Everything in this chapter happens on a page: the editor syncs live while you edit, each page has its own chat and inline comments hang off a specific run of text, every publish is kept as a version, and labels group pages across spaces.

In this chapter

  • Editing Together - live editing, presence, cursors, offline behavior, what happens when collaboration is switched off, and your notifications and your direct message with yourself.
  • Comments - the page’s chat (threads, mentions, reactions, pins and resolving) and inline comments on selected text.
  • Page History - when versions are recorded, previewing an old one, and restoring it.
  • Labels - creating labels, applying them to pages and spaces, colors and groups, and finding things by label.

Where the controls live

All four live in the vertical rail on the right of every page.

Spaces carry labels too, and there the tag button sits next to the space title rather than in a rail.

Your Notifications channel, the first row of the sidebar’s Chat list, holds one message for each page you watch changing, each mention, and each reply in a page’s comment thread you follow. See Being told what changed.

Two rules worth knowing up front

Editing and publishing are different things. What you type syncs to everyone else editing the same page within the second. It does not reach readers until you click Publish. Publishing is also what writes a version.

Inline comments are made while reading. Leave edit mode, select the text, and the Comment bubble appears. In edit mode the bubble stays hidden, because your selection is being used for formatting.
