Your First Page

Your First Page

Ten minutes, start to finish. You will end up with a space, a page, and published content.

1. Sign in

Open the app. You get the Welcome back screen with Email and Password fields and a Sign in button. If your instance uses LDAP or OAuth, extra tabs and buttons appear above the form.

Sign in with the account you created during Installation, or with the one your administrator issued you. You land on Your Nexus.

2. Pick a nexus

Your Nexus is a grid of cards, one per nexus, plus a New Nexus card at the end. A fresh install has Default Nexus.

Click a card to open it. To make your own, click New Nexus, type a name into the Nexus name field, and confirm. The sidebar can do it too: at the top level it shows a Nexus section header with a + button (“New nexus”), which opens the Create new nexus dialog.

3. Create a space

Inside a nexus you see the nexus name and a grid of space cards.

Click the + next to the Spaces header in the sidebar, or the Create Space card in the grid. The Create new space dialog opens with a Space name field and a subtitle showing which nexus it lands in. Type a name and click Create.

docu.nexus generates the URL slug from the name. You are taken to the new space at /space/<id>.

4. Create a page

You are in the space. The sidebar section header now reads Content, with a + button (“New content”).

Click it. A short menu appears:

ItemCreates
PageA document
FolderA container for other pages
Plugin typesBoard, Requirements collection, and so on, if those plugins are installed

Pick Page. The Create new page dialog opens with a Page name field. If your nexus has templates, a Start from dropdown appears, defaulting to Blank page. Type a title and click Create.

The space also has a vertical rail on the right with the same actions: a page-with-plus icon for New page, a folder-with-plus icon for New folder, and one button per installed plugin document type.

5. Write

Your new page opens in read mode. Click the pencil icon at the top of the right rail (Edit page), or press ⌘E.

In edit mode:

  • The title becomes an editable field. Type over Untitled. Title changes save on their own.
  • The body is a rich text editor. Type. Press / for the slash command menu, or use the toolbar.
  • A connection indicator in the editor’s top bar shows Connected, Syncing…, or Offline. Anyone else editing the same page appears live.

6. Publish

Click Publish in the editor top bar, or press ⌘S. The button reads Publishing… while it works, then the page drops back to read mode. If the publish does not go through, you stay in edit mode with your text and a notice says so; publish again once the connection is back.

Drafts are kept as you type, so nothing is lost if you close the tab. Publish is what makes the current text the official version. Changed your mind? Click Discard (⌘D) and confirm.
