Whiteboard

Whiteboard

A Whiteboard page is a canvas: boxes, connectors, freehand strokes and frames. A board is a page, so it lives in a space, inherits permissions and sharing, shows up in search and has a normal URL.

Whiteboard is free and always on (no SKU). It has no admin tab.

If you can only view the board, it opens without the tool palette, a line at the top of the canvas says you can view it but not edit it, and the rail has no Delete whiteboard. You can still pan, zoom and export.

Connectors

A connector is an arrow, a line or a meander. Select one to see its handles.

ControlWhat it does
MeanderThe connector tool beside Arrow (M): a line that turns only at right angles, what Visio calls a dynamic connector. Drag it from one shape to another; every corner is kept.
Move a segmentOn a meander, drag the square handle in the middle of a segment. It moves sideways and its neighbours stretch. Dragging the first or last segment past its shape adds a short jog at that end.
Move a cornerDrag the round handle on a corner. The corner follows the pointer and both neighbours stay square.
Remove a cornerClick the corner, then press Delete; or double-click it. The two segments become one.
Add a bendOn an arrow or a line, drag the small round handle in the middle of a segment.
Move a bendDrag the bend handle. Hold Shift to keep the corner square.
Remove a bendClick the bend, then press Delete; or double-click it.
ConvertIn the style panel’s Line sheet: Convert to meander gives an arrow or a line square corners; Straighten removes every corner.
GlueAn end dropped on a shape follows it when the shape moves. On a meander the corner next to a glued end slides to keep that end square; every other corner stays where you put it.

A connector does not find its own way around the shapes between its ends. The corners are where you put them.

Showing a board in a page

A board can sit inside an ordinary page, next to the writing that explains it.

  1. Edit the page and type /whiteboard, then choose Whiteboard.
  2. Type part of the board’s title and pick it from the list. Only whiteboards you can open are offered.
  3. Publish.

The page shows the whole board, drawn as it is now. Change the board and the page shows the change the next time it is opened, or when you come back to its browser tab. Readers click or tap the board to open it.

While you edit the page, click the board once to select it; press Backspace to remove it, or drag it by its handle to move it. The control beside the board’s title shows a different board instead.

A reader who cannot open the board sees “This whiteboard is not available to you.” in its place, and not its name. The board keeps its own permissions: putting it in a page does not share it with the page’s readers. On a public share link the same sentence is shown.

When the page is exported, the board goes into the file as a picture with a link to the board. An agent reading the page through MCP gets “Whiteboard:” and the board’s title, linked to the board, and reads the board itself with whiteboard_read_board.

Agents

Through MCP, whiteboard_add_shapes and whiteboard_update_shapes take points and route on an arrow, and whiteboard_read_board (format shapes) returns them. whiteboard_draw_diagram with route: "orthogonal" stores the corners it draws.
